How to join

Visiting Machspace before joining

Most of the time Machspace is a members-only space. However, you can visit as a guest of a member, and you can visit on open days when Machspace is open to the public.

Step 1: Application form

You can apply for membership online here, or you can fill in a paper form at Machspace.

Step 2: Induction

When we receive your application:

  1. If you’ve checked the “please send me weekly emails with induction availability” box, you will get one of those within a week, and you can use it to arrange an induction.
  2. If you didn’t check that box, you will need to email us to arrange your induction: hello@machspace.org

You should bring some photo ID to the induction. We’ll need to see it to verify your identity, but we won’t make a copy.

During your induction, the volunteer/director will let you into the makerspace and go through the member guide and code of conduct with you. You will have to sign a copy of the code of conduct, to show that you’ve read and understood it and that you agree to follow it.

You’ll then be given a membership number and a key fob. You can use this key fob to access the makerspace at any time.

Step 3: Payment

Most makerspaces operate on a monthly fee model for membership, often with a sliding scale. Thanks to a grant for running costs from the Social Value Forum Powys, Machspace works on a “pay-what-you-feel” model. This means that you can choose how much to pay per month until the end of the SVF grant period in March 2025.

When you receive your membership pack, it will contain our bank details for setting up a standing order. Since we’re a very new non-profit, any regular payments are very gratefully received – the SVF grant covers running costs but not the cost of buying equipment, so any payments go towards buying equipment that members want/need.
